Everything I've watched, listened to, read, etc. #favoritethings
I needed a break, mentally, from everything I've been going through (see IVF journey posts) so I decided I'd compile a list of the things I've loved so far this year.
Favorite things I've watched so far in 2023
If you know me, you know I watch a lot of TV. Most of it, I'll admit, is on the "trashy" end of things. But here's a mix of shows if you need something new to binge.
- Succession (HBO)- The final season aired this year but the whole show is amazing. I wish I could go back and watch it all again from the beginning for the first time.
- Vanderpump Rules (Bravo) - If the term "Scandoval" means anything to you, we can be friends!
-The Bear (FX/ Hulu) - Yes, chef! If you think you'd enjoy a fast-paced look into a fictional family-run restaurant in Chicago, this is for you! Full of laughs (and some tears) it's a great watch that you will not want to stop watching.
- Jury Duty (Amazon Prime) - As someone who works in the legal field, I had a few complaints about the courtroom antics, but it was a fun and interesting watch. It's part scripted and part reality show, with a bunch of crazy characters.
-The Climb (HBO) - I've recently gotten back into rock climbing and this is a fun competition show whether you like to climb or watch a bunch of amateurs compete to be the last one standing. Don't worry, no one dies in this one! And bonus points if you are a Jason Momoa fan - he's one of the creators of the show and makes a few cameos.
I could go on and on about TV shows, so let me know if you want anymore recs!
Favorite things I've listened to
When I'm not watching TV, I'm usually listening to either an audiobook or podcast.
Like my taste in TV, I tend to listen to a lot of TV/ Pop Culture related podcasts as well.
-Pod Meets World- This podcast just makes me smile. If you watched the show Boy Meets World in the 90s, you'll probably enjoy listening to 3 of the main cast recap every episode and re-watch for the first time in 30 years.
- Brain Candy - This is my go-to podcast where it feels like I'm just hanging with my girlfriends and learning some fun, random facts.
-The Coldest Case in Laramie - Were you a fan of Serial? If so, the makers of it have a new-ish anthology podcast about a Cold Case in Laramie, WY. So far, it's not as compelling as Serial, but I don't think anything ever will be.
Favorite things I've read
The last few years, I've really upped my reading game. And even though I'm not reading War and Peace, it's been so nice to get back into reading and be part of the "booktok" community as well as chatting about books with friends.
-"Happy Place" by Emily Henry - I'm sure you've been seeing this bright pink book everywhere. Emily Henry has done it again and by "it" I mean writing the best rom-com books out there currently! Happy Place is the perfect Summer fun read.
-"The Marriage Pact" by Michelle Richmond- A fun thriller that takes place in the SF Bay Area. How far would you go to ensure that your marriage lasted?
-"It Ends with Us", "It Starts with Us" and "Verity" by Colleen Hoover - I'm officially part of the Colleen Hoover fan club. I read "It Ends with Us" in about a week which is very fast for me! Her writing is so page-turning that time flies and you've read 50 pages in what feels like minutes.
My favorite things I bought recently
- Blackout curtains for our bedroom/ guest bedroom
- This journal that I made - I'd love for you to buy it!
(Can you tell that all I've been buying is stuff for our house?)
Hope you enjoyed this list! I'm sure I forgot some things so let me know what I should read, listen or watch next!
- Lex
