Over the past couple of years I really got back into reading for fun. After being in school for so many years, I never wanted to - nor had time - to read non-school books. But thanks to some friends and the #booktok and #bookstagram communities, I've been reading some great books that I think you should too!
All books are linked here for you to buy on Amazon, and if you do, I may make a tiny commission off it. I would be so grateful if you did! Or send this list to a friend, family member or significant other so they know what to get you for the holidays!
Are you a big reader too? I'd love to be friends with you on Goodreads - Click here to add me!
My Favorite Books of the last few years
In no particular order!
Do you love a good rom-com with a killer edge? So do I! *Spoiler Alert* There are no actual murders in this book, the main character Phoebe just thinks her new hot neighbor is a serial killer! After all, once you become obsessed with True Crime, everyone is a suspect!
If you love reading about old Hollywood gossip, this book is for you! I had no idea what this book was about when I started it and I was pleasantly surprised! The character of Evelyn Hugo feels so real, I had to Google to make sure she wasn't! But she is based on some pretty famous starlets of the 1950's. And if you've read any of Taylor's other books, you might recognize some of the character's from the TJR universe! You can't go wrong with any of her books!
I can't praise Emily Henry enough for her amazing rom-com books. I've written about her books previously here. Her books are bright and fun, just like the book covers. If you love Hallmark movies but want a little more drama and a little more of an R-rated version, you will love these books! They are the perfect Beach Reads (pun intended) but are great to read all year!
It Ends with Us, It Starts with Us and Verity by Colleen Hoover - Also see previous post but I can't say enough good things about these books! The "It Ends" and "It Starts" books are a two-part series; whereas "Verity" is a standalone thriller. They are intense, but so good! There is something about Colleen's writing that once you start, you can't stop! They are addictive!
The "A Good Girl's Guide to Murder" book series by Holly Jackson. Can you tell what types of books I like? Either the cutest rom-com or a good murder-y thriller! This series is technically a Young Adult mystery series but I loved it! If you are a fan of Nancy Drew and/or Veronica Mars, Pip is in good company with them as a fellow teenage detective. So far, there are three books in the series. And like a lot of the books on this list, it will be coming to a TV screen near you very soon! So be sure to read these before you see the live-action version!
In my Dreams I hold a Knife by Ashley Winstead - As of November 6th when I'm writing this, I'm only halfway done with this book. It's a murder mystery surrounding a group of friends in college and one of the girls in the friend group gets killed their senior year, and her boyfriend is suspected. The books jumps between "now" and the college years piecing together what happened. So far I'm really enjoying the fun ride.
The "Knockemout" Series: Things We Never Got Over, Things We Hide From the Light, Things We Left Behind by Lucy Score. I'm only about halfway done with the first book in this series as well. I'm liking it, not loving it (but things can change!) It takes place in the a small town of Knockemout, Virginia with a colorful cast of characters. This book is a slow burn for me, but my friends who read these books, loved them! I'm hoping by the end of book one I'm obsessed and can't wait to continue the series!
P.S. For you Denver readers, please check out the Tattered Cover bookstores! They are going through some difficult times, financially, and could use your business! I know how easy it is to buy books on Amazon (and I'd personally appreciate if you do so by clicking these links) but it's so great to be able to support local businesses as well!
I hope you enjoyed this list! If you have any book recommendations, please send them my way @thelexiconoflife on Instagram! I'm always looking to add stuff to my TBR (to be read) list!
Happy Reading!
